The Clergy at Ernest Cook University

ECU Statement Of Faith

We, as a Christian institution rooted in the Anglican tradition, affirm the following beliefs:

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—equal in power, glory, and divinity. God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things and is sovereign over all creation.

We affirm that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. They are authoritative and sufficient for teaching, guiding faith, and shaping conduct.

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Through His life, death on the cross, and bodily resurrection, He accomplished salvation for humanity. He ascended into heaven and will return in glory to judge the living and the dead.

We believe that all people are created in God’s image but are fallen into sin. Salvation is by God’s grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ, not by human works. Through repentance and faith, believers are reconciled to God and receive eternal life.

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who convicts of sin, regenerates, indwells, and empowers believers for holy living, service, and witness.

We affirm that the Church is the Body of Christ, comprised of all believers. As part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, we uphold the historic faith expressed in the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion.

We recognize Baptism and Holy Communion as sacraments instituted by Christ, through which believers are strengthened in faith and unity with Him and one another.

We believe that all believers are called to live lives of holiness, integrity, and service. Guided by Scripture and the teachings of Christ, we seek to promote justice, compassion, and reconciliation in society.

We are committed to the Great Commission—to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to serve others in love, contributing to the spiritual, intellectual, and moral transformation of our communities and nation.

As a university, we affirm the pursuit of Knowledge, truth and wisdom under God. faith and learning are integrated , and all disciplines are explored in light of Christian truth and ethical responsibility.

As a Christian based university, we welcome and respect individuals from all faith backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment where diverse beliefs are valued. While grounded in Christian principles, the university is committed to creating a community that embraces religious pluralism, encourages open dialogue, and supports every student’s right to spiritual growth and expression.
