Strengthening Maternal Healthcare Through Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)!

On Thursday, 15th October 2026, Ernest Cook University held an awarding ceremony for Nurses and Midwives trained in Obstetric Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), drawn from Health Centre III & IV’s serving hard to reach communities across Districts including Adjumani, Butebo, Obongi, Lamwo, Bunyangabo, Bushenyi and Pader, among others.

The training equips these frontline health workers with essential, practical ultrasound skills to support timely obstetric assessments and the early identification of potential pregnancy related complications, particularly in remote areas where access to qualified sonographers and radiographers is limited.

This initiative by Pathfinder International in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MoH), with support from the British High Commission, UNFPA and Doctors with Africa CUAMM, demonstrates the power of collaboration in strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system and improving access to quality maternal healthcare.

Through its expertise in medical imaging and health sciences education, Ernest Cook University is committed to building the capacity of healthcare professionals and advancing accessible, quality healthcare for all.
