About the Ernest Cook University HEAP/ HEC Course
The Ernest Cook University Higher Education Access Program (HEAP) formerly known as HEC, is a vital gateway for students aiming to bridge the gap toward their professional goals. Hosted under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, this intensive one-year program is specifically designed for students who did not attain the two principal passes at A-Level required for direct degree entry.

HEAP Course Details
Minimum Admission Requirements
An applicant should possess any one of the following:

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with:
- One Principal Pass, OR
- At least Two Subsidiary Passes in principal subjects obtained at the same sitting.
- A level leaver who does not have the required principle passes in the essential subjects for entry in one of the institute’s degrees or diplomas
HEAP Prospects
Successful holders of the HEAC can apply for admission into degree and diploma programmes at universities in Uganda, subject to the specific programme requirements and available places. It is essentially a bridging program.
For Biomedical Engineering, the recommended HEAC subject combinations are Physics & Mathematics or Chemistry & Mathematics.
For Medical Imaging, Physics and Biology are essential.
